It’s all about making Outlook align with your personal or professional identity, and I’m excited to help you with this simple yet significant adjustment!

Understanding Display Names in Outlook

Your display name in Outlook is the name people see when you send them an email. It’s a key part of your email identity that distinguishes you from other senders.

The Role of a Display Name

The display name in Outlook serves as your first impression in email correspondence.

It’s not simply a label; it represents you or your organization when recipients look at their inboxes.

When you send an email, the display name is typically the first thing a recipient sees, even before they open the message.

Having the appropriate display name is critical for recognition and to avoid being mistakenly marked as spam.

Difference Between Display Name and Email Address

  • Display Name: A customizable name that appears in the “From” field of emails you send.
  • Email Address: Your unique identifier for sending and receiving emails, which cannot be changed.

Your display name and email address are distinct elements of your Outlook profile.

While the email address is a fixed series of characters that leads email directly to you, akin to your postal address, the display name can be adjusted to reflect how you want to be identified, such as including a middle initial or professional title.

It should be noted that this change doesn’t affect your actual email address—the recipients still reply to the same email account; only the name they associate with it changes.
